Turbo lag is the slow throttle response when driving a car with a turbocharger.

The turbocharger is driven by exhaust gases, so that the lag comes from the time of the engine to create enough exhaust pressure to spin the turbine and pump compressed air at the inlet to the engine and generate more power.
This is an unfortunate situation, but the innate lack of boost.
